2020 Swannanoa Gathering Scholarships

A partnership with the Swannanoa Gathering at Warren Wilson College
Each year the Charlotte Folk Society and Tosco Music award scholarships to the Swannanoa Gathering at Warren Wilson College to promising musicians who wish to further their studies by participating in the week long music camps near Swannanoa, North Carolina.
IMPORTANT! Please note that the deadline for application materials is Tuesday, January 21, 2020 and that the auditions will be held at Myers Park Baptist Church on Sunday, January 26th, 2:00 PM. Auditions must be in person. No exceptions to the time and place can be made.
The Charlotte Folk Society (CFS) and Tosco Music are pleased to announce that the 2020 Scholarships to the Swannanoa Gathering at Warren Wilson College are now being offered to seven youths and four adults. Named youth scholarships include those honoring Marilyn Meacham Price, founder of the Charlotte Folk Society; William Thomas Covington, a former CFS president; and the late Anne Spychala. The Spencer-Bryant Adult Scholarship honors Sara Spencer, for many years the Music Department faculty sponsor of CFS at Central Piedmont Community College, and the late Gene Bryant, long-time chair of the Music Department at CPCC.
The scholarships is fully funded through a partnership between CFS, Tosco Music, and Warren Wilson College.
The scholarships are to be awarded to students of acoustic music, either instrumental or vocal, who are performing at the intermediate or advanced level. The scholarships are a one-time award for any one of the 2020 Swannanoa Gathering Music Workshops at Warren Wilson College.

Completed applications and letters should be mailed with the $10 fee to the following address by the January 21st deadline: The Charlotte Folk Society c/o Mark Clemens, 20521 Bethelwood Lane, Cornelius, NC 28031.
Auditions for the scholarships will take place and the winner will be determined on Sunday, January 26, 2019.
CFS, Tosco Music staff, members of the CFS and Tosco Music Boards of Directors, and any staff, or Board members’ immediate family members are not eligible to receive scholarships. Judges, their students, and their family members are not eligible to receive scholarships.
2019 Youth Scholarships |
Seven 2019 Youth Scholarships are being offered: the Marilyn Meacham Price Youth Scholarship, named in honor of the founder of the Charlotte Folk Society; the William Thomas Covington Scholarship; the Anne Spychala Scholarship; the Robert Horner Youth Scholarship; the Jane and Will Salter Youth Scholarship; and two Tosco Music Scholarships. The scholarships will be fully funded by a partnership between the Charlotte Folk Society, Tosco Music, and Warren Wilson College. The scholarships cover tuition, provided by the Charlotte Folk Society and Tosco Music, and room and board, provided by Warren Wilson College. The Anne Spychala Scholarship is fully funded through a grant to the CFS from the Anne Spychala Family Charitable Foundation and the Robert Horner and Jane and Will Salter Scholarships through their generous donations.. |
